What are in-the-ear hearing aids?

These hearing aids are moulded to fit inside your ears, making them very discreet or even invisible hearing aids.

In-the-ear hearing aids (ITE) are the most discreet hearing aid styles available. This discreet style has no external wires or tubes visible, as opposed to behind-the-ear hearing aids. ITE hearing aids are all custom-made, ensuring both a perfect fit and a discreet look.

3 features of hearing aids in-the-ear

  • Virtually Invisible – Hardly anyone will notice that you are wearing a hearing aid
  • Custom-made – Designed for a personalised fit in your ear canal
  • Easy to handle – Easy to place in your ear and remove when needed

What is it like to have in-the-ear hearing aids?

In-the-ear hearing aids sit snugly in your ear canals, out of the way of glasses, hats, and other headgear. The smallest are invisible hearing aids, while the larger models are coloured to match your skin tone.

Controlling in-the-ear hearing aids

Some in-the-ear hearing aids have a small button to control them with.

You use this to select different programs. Programs are to help you hear well in different situations. Although most noise control is automated, it can help to have a special program for when you are in very noisy places, or when you watch TV. Programs are set by your hearing care professional when you have your hearing aids fitted.

To turn in-the-ear hearing aids on or off, you open the battery drawer, which disconnects the power.

For the larger in-the-ear hearing aids (In-The-Canal and bigger), you can control the hearing aids using a hearing aid app for iPhone and other smartphones.

Oticon Own features the most discreet hearing aids yet. In fact, their Invisible-in-the-Canal style is truly invisible in 9 out of 10 ears.
