With the Signia AX they are pushing new ways to process sound. Like Oticon Signia believe that hearing aids should not remove background noise but include them and give the user full high-definition hearing. Historically this has been impossible but with new fast acting processors and the ability to get hearing chips small the impossible is now possible.

Never Miss Words
Hearing in groups is our biggest complaint at Lanarkshire Hearing Centre. The sounds all seem to blend together and everything is noisy but not clear.
Augmented Xperience changes all of this and quite dramatically. The new Signia AX uses a system called Augmented Focus which basically splits noise and speech then processes them using a different pathway.
This is important because conventional hearing aids process all the sound together, so speech and noise go through the one processing pathway. Why is this a problem? Well, if everything goes through the one pathway you must process everything in the same way. If the noise is too loud and your hearing aids process this and turn it down then speech will also turn down…. Or what happens mostly when the noise is too loud, and you can’t hear speech your hearing aids try to turn themselves up for you so you can hear speech but the noise gets way to loud. This is a common complaint when we see customers hearing aids from some manufacturers.
If you prioritise one part for processing, then another is obviously going to be neglected. If that other is speech, then you’re going to really struggle in background noise.
Augmented Focus –
Revolutionary split processing
One processor can only do so much, and it cannot do it without affecting the other sounds. What if you had 2 processors?
Signia AX is the first hearing aid manufacturer to launch a hearing aid with 2 processors. Why is that important? Remember the limitations of one? You can only do so much without something else that’s really important being affected?
If we have 2 we can split the surround sounds from the speech and process them both differently. Result = full high-definition heating without speech being compromised in noise.

Focus sounds carry really important information where every small detail is needed, for example the speech of a loved one or hearing a lecturer.
These sounds are processed with more importance on extra volume and with little sound compression.
This processing pathway will put a huge emphasis on clarity and the fine details in speech. It will pull speech closer to the listener so it sounds as clear as possible.
HOW IT WORKS
Surrounding Sounds

Surroundings contain all sounds outside the main speech focus. Surrounding place, the wearer in the heart of the action. Think about someone with normal hearing. They can hold a conversation in noise and not get distracted but could easily enjoy someone playing the piano in the background.
If we lose our surroundings, we lose both awareness and excitement, we lose all the laughter and joy in a busy restaurant or café. With Signia AX and because we can process 2 different sound types, we can apply more compression to the background noise and more volume reduction than pathway one. The result is we have a fully immersive sound that you can hear the laughter and excitement but not at the detriment to your hearing speech.
You can turn the background noise up or down and turn the speech up and down individually. Now that’s exciting!
E2E Wireless Technology
Both hearing aids communicate with each other to help you understand where sound is coming from.
If speech is coming from your right-hand side the right hearing aid will send information to the left.
The left hearing aid will then turn itself down a little to help you hear your friend, colleague or loved one better on that side.

We then reduce the amplification of this frequency, so it integrates harmoniously with the background noise.
