Areas We CoverLanarkshire Hearing Centre's mission is to aspire to serve the hearing & well being needs for the whole of Lanarkshire.
Although our main centre is in Hamilton in South Lanarkshire we have clinics in Lanark South Lanarkshire & Motherwell North Lanarkshire.
We appreciate that not all our clients may be able to make these clinics therefore we offer home visits across the whole of South & North Lanarkshire as well as Glasgow and its surrounding areas.
Things to consider when asking for a home visitWe carry out home visits to help the most vulnerable people who can’t access regular services across Lanarkshire. We find that people who are in most need of a home visit tend to be housebound, may be in hospital or have real difficulty with travel. These patients have the longest waiting times or most inconvenience for any type of appointment due to stretched resources across public services . We kindly ask that you keep this in mind when making a home visit enquiry and help us keep these slots for the people who need it most.
If you are able and its convenient please help us by visiting our centre. This will leave the home visit appointments for those that need it most. We will always try our best to accommodate your wishes so please ask us and we will try and deliver the service you need.

When it comes to hearing health and hearing aids one of the services that is definitely lacking by both the private sector and NHS hearing aid providers is the home visit. Lets start by asking why this is.
Why is it hard to get a home visit appointment?
There are a few reasons its hard to get a home visit appointment for your hearing test lets look at some.
This is probably obvious. Let’s look at a few examples. A hearing test at home for example can take up to 3 hours where in a hearing centre the hearing test may take only 75 mins. The hearing test itself is not the problem its more the travelling between the appointments and the packing and unpacking of all the audiology kit by the dispenser to carry out either a hearing test or ear wax removal.
At Lanarkshire Hearing Centre we have 2 sets of kit. One mobile and one in permeant place in our hearing centre. This helps cut the time down for us dramatically and allows us to serve our clients in their home. This is one of the main reasons you will not see Boots Hearingcare or Specsavers carrying out home visits. It’s a time and cost benefit. Boots Hearingcare & Specsavers are such big companies with high volumes of footfall their need to do home visits is not in their business model and it does not look like it will be anytime soon.
This applies to everyone. How do you see people at home for their hearing test, hearing aid fitting or ear wax removal when you are so busy? Remember the NHS Specsavers and Boots are very big companies. Did you know that the NHS is one of the tip 5 employers in the world!! They also have employees who are contracted to work certain hours. If those hours are extremely busy then the likes of the NHS hearing aids will need to be serviced in your nearest NHS hearing aid centre which in Lanarkshire tends to be in Hamilton or Wishaw.
Boots Hearingcare and Specsavers also have contracted workers who’s main job is to service your needs in branch.

You can only do so much. NHS Lanarkshire or NHS Audiology Lanarkshire is one of the busiest and biggest audiology departments in the UK. They have an amazing team of people working round the clock delivering amazing results. NHS audiology does have its challenges though. People talk a lot about NHS hearing aids v Private hearing aids but for some the NHS team and their hearing aids are life changing. Their biggest challenge is the amount of people they need to get through and the time and resource they have to achieve it.
I have witnessed first hand people who have been given lead times of 12 weeks for an appointment at home for their hearing health needs. This is no fault of the NHS its kind of our fault for living longer and needing more services than a single department can provide.
Why Lanarkshire Hearing Centre Loves home visits
At Lanarkshire Hearing Centre we are a family business and home visits for hearing tests, hearing aids or ear wax removal is a key focus for us. We set a time at the end of the working day to service our customers who need our services in their home. We recognise that when people are asking us for a home visit for their hearing test or even ear wax removal, they will be the ones in most need.
We are passionate about helping everybody and not just those that can get to us. It’s not uncommon for us to be chapping the door to carry out some ear wax removal at 21:30 on a winters night in Coatbridge. All we ask is you have the kettle on!
We realise the difference we can make to people and their lives by helping them hear better. We believe your hearing test should not be restricted to you getting to us. There are so many people who’s only joy in life is watching TV or spending time with loved ones at home. If they can’t hear the TV or their loved ones who is going to help them?
